Remember Mickey Shunick—Her Killer Sure Will

Mickey Shunick was brutally murdered several months ago, but she did a number on the man who killed her when she fought for her life. When Brandon Scott Lavergne confessed to killing her, he admitted that the anthropology major stabbed him several times while trying to escape his grips. It's not news to know that now he's trying to recant his confession and 'guilty' plea, not that it's likely he'll be successful in this endeavor.

The mother of the slain student took to her Facebook page on Wednesday and spoke her mind about Lavergne's latest comments.

"I think a 230-pound man in a custom, extended-cab pickup truck ran down a 100-pound girl on a bicycle. I think he picked her because she was tiny; he thought she would be easy to control while alive and easy to dispose of when dead," she said.

"Mickey knew it was a fight to the death, and she fought for her life until Brandon Scott Lavergne shot her through the head. Self-defense? Torture? Pressure? Incompetence? Mickey is the only part of this that has ever been important to us. She always will be important to us. Always."

Mickey Shunick will certainly always be remembered by her loved ones. But it's most important to note that she will forever be remembered by her killer. Brandon Lavergne has clearly been established as a dangerous sex offender and extremely likely serial killer. Had it not been for the massive fight Mickey put up against her killer, he might not have been caught when he was. She ruined his plans, threw in variables that he didn't account for, and in the process this made him sloppy. Now he must live the rest of his miserable days in confinement, thinking about the last woman he senselessly took from this world, and how she, in the end, is who done him in.

this girl, while fighting for her life, whether she knew it or not, saved lives, while losing her own. She put this man on the radar, and if there is anything out of all this her family can be proud of, its that Mickey prevented other murders and rapes from happening. It may not be a whole lot, for they lost a very important part of their life, but it is something. She did make a difference, and will continue to do so. Organizations will be made in Mickeys name if they havent already, as scholarships will be donated in her name I can guarantee it.
