The psychiatrist who treated alleged gunman James Holmes in the Aurora theater massacre that killed 12 people and injured 58, while apparently dressed as The Joker during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises, is being named in a lawsuit. Fourteen people have filed documents that indicate they are going to sue James Holmes' doctor, Dr. Lynne Fenton for negligence, as well as the University of Colorado. James Holmes attended the University, and was a neuroscience doctor student.
Fenton has testified in court that he last had contact with James Holmes on June 11th, which is a full month before he apparently went into the movie theater and committed murder. She said that she even contacted Campus police after they met for the last time because she was concerned about what happened in that meeting. It seems that this psychiatrist did all that she could for Holmes, and it is strange that so many people are now naming her in a lawsuit. Of course, those that lost someone in the Aurora shooting or were injured themselves are very likely looking for someone to blame and that could be the reason for this.
Apparently, Holmes told the psychiatrist that he "fantasized about killing a lot of people," in the June 11th meeting. The lawsuit alleges that James Holmes' doctor knew that Holmes was a danger to others and did nothing to prevent an occurrence like the Aurora shooting. A spokesman for the University, Jacque Montgomery, said that the University knew about the lawsuits. "We understand that there is pain and frustration amongst the families of the deceased and victims of this terrible crime and we have great sympathy for them," Montgomery said.
