A Missouri school district has provoked outrage from a student's mother after reportedly suggesting that her 13-year-old daughter should have breast reduction surgery. According to Fox News, "Tammie Jackson said her daughter, a sixth-grade student at Central Middle School is being sexually harassed because of her breast size." Jackson called the school district to complain about the bullying and says the woman she spoke to advised her to get breast reduction surgery for her daughter.
Jackson was outraged by the suggestion. In addition to the problems her daughter is experiencing, Jackson claims that her 9-year-old son is also a victim of bullying, being picked on because of the scars on his chest from a heart condition. She says she wants the school to "talk with the kids. Let them know people's bodies are changing, everyone is different, but God made us all great," according to Fox2now.
If what Jackson says is true, it's really shocking that the person she spoke to thought they would get away with advising something like this. Most would agree that besides being an offensive thing to say, it is hardly an appropriate solution.
The school district says they are investigating the incident, and Jackson says the superintendent told her "they are working on a plan to resolve the issues regarding both of her children."
Bullying is such a serious issue for so many children. Hopefully, some effective solutions can be found soon.
