California Mega Millions Ticket Worth More than $140,000

Congrats to one of the California Mega Millions winners from Tuesday night's drawing. There were actually two Match 5 + 0 winners for this drawing, each one winning $140,688. The lottery winner matched five out of six white Mega Millions winning numbers, but not the Mega Ball number for the second-tier prize.

According to the Press Enterprise, the California Mega Millions winner purchased the lucky ticket at Sierra Chevron Extra Mile, 10510 Sierra Ave, Fontana for the January 22 drawing. The standard prize amount for a Match 5 + 0 prize is normally $250,000, but in California, Mega Millions prize amounts are pari-mutuel, and may vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners. In this case, the California lottery winner will receive quite a bit less, around $140,688. The winning Mega Millions ticket remains unclaimed for the time being.

If you think you're holding this winning ticket, don't wait too long to claim your prize. California Lottery officials say Mega Millions tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the winning draw date, or your prize money could be forfeited. And whatever you do, don't forget to sign the back of your ticket!
