Marijuana is playing a starring role in the shooting death of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield according to recent news on the murder case. And just when everyone wanted to attribute Eddie Ray Routh's deranged shooting of the two men as the act of a post-traumatic stress disorder it is revealed that a bong and drug paraphernalia were found at the suspect's home. So much for the mentally ill defense angle, eh?
The New York Times said that court documents make clear that Mr. Routh was paranoid when he shot and killed the two men according to his sister's statement and that Routh told her "everyone was out to get him." Of course he did. Paranoia is one of the side effects of drug use according to numerous sources medically.
And the day Eddie of the killing, when Routh went to his sister's home and explained why he shot Kyle and Littlefield he also told her that he "traded his soul for a new truck." He sure did, it appears. And just maybe he thought he could sell it and buy a whole bunch of drugs with that. Drugs played a role in the theft of nine pill bottles from his mother's house back in May, so stealing to support his habit isn't a stretch, and she more or less pointed the finger at her son as the culprit that night police say.
In September, during another conflict with his parents he "threatened to blow his brains out" if his father didn't back down on his threat to take his gun away. Police found guns and ammunition in his home along with his pot smoking bong and other drug stuff this week. And having both weapons and drugs in the home is a dangerous combination for anyone, at least it was dangerous for Kyle and Littlefield that Routh had them.
Pills and pot appear to be the drugs of choice for the suspect in both murders, but a police officer who stopped Eddie Routh after his mother called them one night in September says the 25-year-old former Iraq veteran was under the influence of alcohol on that evening. In fact, he says he reeked of it. And so it appears that maybe mental illness isn't the problem with Eddie Ray; maybe drug and alcohol addiction is, and that he will do just about anything to get a fix. His own sister said he was like a crazy person the day he came to her house, and she feared for her own life enough to call the cops right afterward. And she's his friggin' sister!
One of the Chris Kyle suspect's own attorneys, Mr. Isham, is telling how Routh thinks everything is quid pro quo in life, bartering with his own mother while in jail over a cigarette this past Tuesday. The Times reported that Eddie Ray wanted to smoke a cigarette and insisted his mother give him one if she wanted to see him. She didn't comply the attorney says and Eddie Ray Routh didn't see her.
"He's trying to play an angle," Isham said, the "I give you something, you give me something." Nobody gave in to his childish demands for yet another drug of his choice that day. However, it is beginning to sound more and more like Eddie Ray Routh is exhibiting the typical behavior of a manipulative drug user isn't he? And marijuana use can become addictive just like other drugs, making the person demanding and difficult to be around.
Sadly, it is now being revealed that Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield's alleged shooter might be getting something else he wants: a mental health exam so he can get away with murder by claiming he's a victim of mental illness and post-traumatic stress disorder. And that's beside the fact that he's never wanted that "help" before, with his family essentially forcing him into treatment in the past. But hey, now his freedom depends upon it, so he's all for it. Right?
