Former Illinois cop Drew Peterson has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for the murder of one of his ex-wives. Another of his wives, Stacy Peterson, is still missing and presumed dead. He is a suspect in her disappearance, but has never been charged.
According to a report from USA Today, Peterson was convicted back in September of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio. During Thursday's sentencing he faced up to sixty years in prison.
When his sentence was read, Peterson yelled, "I did not kill Kathleen!"
A relative of Savio's hollered back, "Yes, you did!" before being escorted from the courtroom.
Kathleen Savio was buried after she supposedly drowned back in March of 2004. Her body was eventually exhumed and new tests were run that implicated Peterson in her murder.
Savio's sister Anna Marie Savio-Doman spoke on her late sister's behalf prior to sentencing.
"Your honor, the defendant shows no remorse to this day for the horrible crime that he did to my sister Kathleen. This senseless action is inexcusable. I am placing my trust that you will give Kathleen justice once and for all," she said.
Do you think justice was served in the Drew Peterson case—or will it only be served to the best of the system's ability once Stacy Peterson's body is found and he is made to pay for her murder, too.
Do you expect Stacy Peterson's body will ever turn up? Or did Drew improve his murder and cover-up skills the second time around?
