On the evening of February 19th, a woman walking her dog found a newborn baby, naked in a Wal-Mart bag, near the Stonegate Villas Apartments in Houston, Texas. The little girl was taken by paramedics to Texas Children's Hospital, where she is said to be in good condition. The hospital staff named her Chloe.
This adorable little girl didn't appear to have been out there long, as her temperature was normal. CPS worker Estella Olguin said, "Fortunately, she did not suffer from being exposed to the elements that evening." She did have a 3-inch bit of umbilical cord still attached to her stomach, that was not clamped and it's believed that she was roughly 5 weeks premature and had been cleaned up. Could this point to her mother possibly being a young girl, who was scared and didn't know what to do? That has been a trend in the past, but one would think, with the teen mom boom, girls would be more able to discuss such things with their parents, or at least someone who could help them. However, it's just as likely that an adult woman could do this.
Though the biological parents would have no claim to the little cutie, authorities are looking for them, as a way to know more about her family's medical history which includes early tooth development, apparently, as the one-week-old already has a tooth coming through. Ms. Olguin said, "So the person who is adopting this baby can have some more genetic family medical background on the baby to be able to raise her with more knowledge or information about her." Apparently, the parents may even face charges for leaving the baby in a dangerous situation where she could have died.
Baby Chloe didn't deserve to have been dumped randomly, especially in a state with such lenient Safe Haven Laws. Within the first 60 days of a child's life, you can freely relinquish them to a hospital, EMS worker, fire station, child welfare agency, and probably churches, without fear of ramifications. That being said, why would a person choose to risk the baby's life? Hopefully, a wonderful family adopts this baby and she lives a wonderful life, with parents who really want her.
