Raping any girl or woman is depraved enough, and, sadly, such acts of brutality have been occurring since the beginning of time. But that these violent deeds still take place today with such regularity, when societies and criminal justice systems are allegedly so "advanced," is totally uncivilized.
Worse, the devastating effects of sex assaults are being greatly intensified in modern times as, far too often, perpetrators further seek to hurt their victims by filming and sharing graphic images of the attacks for the whole wide world to gape at online.
Thereafter, these dangerous deviants, joined by throngs of prurient onlookers who likewise have no morals or human decency, follow through with cyberbullying and real time harassment.
A scary new dimension to a very old crime
Premeditated assaults, date-rape drugs, gang bangers, webcam goon-squads, online distribution of child pornography, cyber harassment, defamation, threats, menacing, and even murderÂ…these aren't 'ordinary' rapes being staged here, by any stretch of imagination.
In consideration of that, and regardless of the age and status of the various people committing these shocking offenses, or of those knowingly aiding and abetting them, the book has to be thrown at all the players now, without exception.
Rape has clearly entered a new realm this era. Where once it was a one-on-one event rarely ever witnessed by anybody or bragged about, now it's become a spectator sport. A heinous activity that couldn't be accomplished without the assistance of a crowd armed with cellphones, twitter accounts, and digital cameras.
Assembled at the scene of the crime or via the internet, that vicious mob is thereby culpably liable, and it should be shown the same degree of mercy it has shown all of its victims.
Good 'ol boys not so good
Get over it already, law enforcement et al. Males aren't gods and any self-respecting man knows that females aren't merely objects to be used or misused like toys. If police and prosecutors had responded immediately and indiscriminately to these atrocities, as they're required to do by law, then three young girls would have been spared additional humiliations, and two of them would still be alive.
Yes, this inaction and inhumanity shows that cops are still basically backwards-thinking men, and, just as they did in days of old concerning domestic abuse and spousal battering, they're openly identifying with and showing sympathy for the rapists as well.
That means more than just "sensitivity training" is required to correct this grievous situation; it's time for a major paradigm shift on the subject of guaranteeing the so called "weaker sex" their equal rights now.
Because the insidious problem of institutionalized gender bias, reinforced with bad parenting and improper schooling, places females of every age everywhere at tremendous risk 24/7, and is precisely why all three of these social rape victims were systematically deprived of justice and expected to endure the unendurable alone and in silence.
Moreover, it was only through pressure from enlightened outside parties that law enforcement officers at last acquiesced and agreed to revisit the cases again. Doing so only because they were publicly shamed into it, not, as they're presently claiming, because of the introduction of any "new evidence."
Shame, shame, shame
Several months lapsed between the crimes Pott, Parsons and the Steubenville victim each suffered and the final apprehension of the perverse youths who calculatingly betrayed and violated them.
During this time, their ill bred classmates and internet cohorts participated in abusing these youngsters even more, savagely pushing them to the depths of despair and suicide, whilst additionally concealing the identities of each and every one of their rapists.
Arresting only the sex offenders therefore, and doing so long after the fact, when two of the victims have already broken down and killed themselves, is a classic example of too little too late. And, from a legal perspective, the repeated refusal of public officials to offer equal protection to these injured girls was not only malicious misfeasance, but a serious crime.
Obviously, these powerful "gentlemen" have no mothers, no wives, no daughters, no nieces, no female neighbors, no women friends.
And no consciences.
