In what could have been her finest hour, Fox's Greta Van Susteran blew it big time with Dr. Henry Kissinger when she came out of the reporter interview starting gate by sensationalizing the Syria issue. And the former Secretary of State had to set her straight as a result, according to this Gretawire video.
Greta: "Dr. Kissinger, President Putin has now called Secretary of State John Kerry a liar..."
Kissinger: "What I have seen of the press conference does not contain what you just said."
In other words, Greta wanted to focus her conversation on Putin dissing Kerry and get a very dignified and respected former secretary of state to make remarks that supported her observation of media events recently. But the famous Henry Kissinger did not come by his reputation as a diplomatic genius by speaking unwisely in a very public setting. And he didn't do it this time.
Instead, the aging political statesman called for patience in the midst of the conversations that continue regarding Assad and Syria. And he told Greta that the G-20 meeting members and Russia could conceivably come up with an approach to this situation that would be a better option than what is currently being discussed.
Greta took another jab at getting Dr. Kissinger to weigh in on whether Americans should be alarmed that President Obama has pushed the Russian bear country's leader to the point of bucking him internationally on the matter of Syria. But, again, Kissinger said there is no cause for alarm because "we are in a stronger position than Russia in most problems around the world." And he also said that we need to stand up for our own positions, if it comes down to it.
Finally, when Fox's hostess pushed the former secretary of state to weigh in on the impossibility of having dialogue between Pres. Obama and Pres. Putin now that Obama canceled such a meeting due to the Snowden incident, Kissinger educated her on the finer details of political machinations that even the press don't know about at times.
"I would be extremely amazed if there were not a private meeting between Pres. Putin and Pres. Obama at an international meeting on Russian soil, for which the Russians are the host, even if the meeting is not widely announced."
